Potential Benefits

Cardiovascular Health

Hemp seeds are exceptionally rich in two essential fatty acids Alpha-Linolenic Acid (Omega-3) and Linoleic Acid (Omega-6). These EFA’s are found to have the perfect ratio of 3:1 for optimum benefit.

Hemp seeds contain high amounts of the amino acid Arginine, which produces nitric oxide in your body. Nitric oxide is a gas molecule that makes your blood vessels dilate and relax, leading to lowered blood pressure and a reduced risk of heart disease.

Gamma-Linolenic Acid found in hemp seeds has also been linked to reduced inflammation, which may decrease your risk of diseases such as heart disease.

Plant-Based Protein

Hemp seeds are an invaluable source protein for those on a vegan diet.  Approximately, 25% of calories in hemp seeds are derived from protein. In fact, by weight, hemp seeds provide similar amounts of protein animal protein. The two main proteins present are the high quality storage proteins Edestin and Albumin which are easily digested.

Hemp seeds are a complete protein source, which means that they provide all the essential all nine amino acids Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan, and Valine. Your body cannot produce essential amino acids therefore you must obtain them from your diet.

They also contain significant amounts of the amino acids Methionine and Cysteine, as well as very high levels of Arginine and Glutamic Acid.

Balanced Hormones

Up to 80% of women of reproductive age may suffer from physical or emotional symptoms caused by premenstrual syndrome (PMS). These symptoms are very likely caused by sensitivity to the hormone Prolactin.

Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), found in hemp seeds, produces Prostaglandin E1, which reduces the effects of Prolactin. It may decrease breast pain and tenderness, depression, irritability and fluid retention associated with PMS.

Because hemp seeds are high in GLA they may help reduce symptoms associated with menopause, too.

Hemp seeds contain compounds called Lignanamides which are believed to have strong antioxidant properties. Antioxidants protect your body from oxidative damage, which has been linked to chronic illnesses such as  heart disease and diabetes. Eating foods that contain antioxidants is good for your health.

Fibre is an essential part of your diet and linked to better digestive health. Whole hemp seeds are a good source of both soluble and insoluble fibre.

Soluble fibre forms a gel-like substance in your gut. It’s a valuable source of nutrients for beneficial digestive bacteria and may also reduce spikes in blood sugar and regulate cholesterol levels.

Insoluble fibre adds bulk to your stool and may help food and waste pass through your gut and slow the absorption of sugar.

Bone Health

Containing both Magnesium and Phosphorus hemp seeds can play an important part in maintaining your bone health.

Immune System

Zinc found in hemp seeds can provide a welcome boost to your immune system.
